DRESS CODE

Students at NMCS are expected to adhere to the dress code without being constantly reminded of the dress standards expected.  The dress code applies equally to both male and female students for the upper and lower schools. Students will be expected to be in dress code, shirts tucked in at all times, well groomed and neatly dressed while on school grounds.  NMCS has final determination of appropriate attire for regular school days as well as out of uniform days.

K-3 through K-4 - A school shirt is required to be worn on field trips.

K-5 through 8th grade - Uniforms are mandatory for students in K-5 through 8th grade.  Information on uniforms is available in the school office.  Uniforms are purchased through Zoghby’s Uniforms. (zoghbyuniforms.com)  Students in grades K5 – 4th who are not in complete uniform will have a note sent home and parents maybe contacted for the first offense.  The second offense will require that a parent be contacted and the correct uniform be brought to school for the student or student must go home.  A student in grades 5-8 who is not in complete uniform may be given a demerit or sent home depending on the infraction.  Black soft sole shoes (or girls’ black/white oxford) are required (no sandals, slip-ons or backless), and “tennis shoes” cannot have insignias or colors on them. Students may ONLY wear jackets and sweatshirts with current school emblems.

The skirt length for girls is no higher than 2” above the knee.  Girls notified of improper skirt lengths will receive a letter sent home at the first offense;  student will be sent home at the second offense.  A black belt must be worn with pants having belt loops.  Elementary students may remove belt loops and not wear a belt if parents prefer.  White T-shirts only may be worn under uniform shirts/blouses.  Any patches on clothing must be placed on the inside where it cannot be seen.  All mending on uniforms must be neat.

Hairstyles and make-up should be neat and conservative.    Examples, but not limited to are: no hair wraps, mohawks, corn rolls, or undercuts.  Hair color and highlights must be a natural color.  Male students’ hair cannot pass their eyebrows, and be modest in length in the back.  There should be no excessive piercings or jewelry. Students may not draw on themselves.  Boys will not be allowed to wear earrings. No visible permanent or temporary tattoos

It is very important that parents label ALL items coming to school (uniforms, lunch boxes, etc).  Items placed in lost and found cannot be returned if owners cannot be identified.

The ultimate decision on proper attire will be at the discretion of NMCS faculty.
